Offerings de-install 2018

Can’t quite believe it is a month ago that I de-installed Offerings 2018…… time speeds but strangely stretches…The works came down quicker than they went up…… And you bought me to my knees….. Photos from de-installing Offerings at R-Space Gallery. Lisburn. Northern Ireland. 24-26th March 2018

Offerings Exhibition at R Space Gallery. Lisburn NI is now open!

The Exhibition install went well, took 8 days working on site. The opening reception took place on Saturday 24th February and I ran a ‘Reconsidering Clothes’ workshop on Wednesday 28th February. I have very much enjoyed the process of working with the gallery space. ‘Bit of Skirt’ and ‘waisted: wasted’ were finally completed in the gallery. Photos below are of installing the work, including the much needed scaffolding tower which, at times, seemed to became part of the work. Offerings continues until Friday 23rd March 2018.

Gallery residency – Work in progress; Shed Space Exhibition 2016

Working with a knicker elastic warp stretched around the gallery architecture steel post and attached to the ‘shed space’ shed, I have been free fall weaving and un- weaving with a mix of nylon undergarments and stockings… starting with the basement foundations of the Former Lucas Underwear Factory building in George Street Oxford…

bit like the emperor’s new clothes……

Since February this year, 2015; been spending long, endless, still hours re-weaving/stitching /adjusting making sure you are lasting and secure for your new home….. it ‘seams’ that this labour does not show, been feeling like I’m pretending to do some work ! … bit like the emperor’s new clothes……Lucy Brown. Jabots and my old machine-made lace high-neck dress (almost vintage)

(my) lace, high- neck dress, size 10, 1980’s St. Michaels; marks & spencer, the skirt of this could be wefted maybe . . .extending white lace warp on ‘shoulders’ to follow through with seams of lace high-neck dress…… evokes the Nottingham Jabots I studied in Nottingham museum’s lace collections, male and female frills to cover, to hide the closure of a shirt, dress or blouse…. Can the white lace warp on shoulders be extended and weft of heather mauve pink skirt added . . . ?
