One of the things I like about being part of the 62 Group of Textile Artists is that the 62 Group opens up unexpected opportunities. The Groups forthcoming exhibition ‘Ebb and Flow’ is one of those opportunities. For the past five months I have been working on a site specific work titled ‘All at Sea’ for the enchanting Ross Tiger ex- fishing trawler.
‘All at Sea’ will be part of ‘Ebb and Flow’ running from 9th Sept to 2nd Nov 2014 across 2 venues, The Fishing Heritage Centre and The Grimsby Minster. The exhibition will be accompanied by an extensive education programme.
The Ross Tiger is part of the North East Lincolnshire Museums exhibits and she now rests at the back of the Fishing Heritage Centre in Alexandra Dock, Grimsby. Access via daily guided tours, some of which are led by ex-Grimsby trawler fishermen.
The Ross Tiger was built in Selby in 1957. She is thought to be the oldest middle-deep water side-trawler in the country. She represents an almost extinct breed of vessels that once made up the largest fishing fleet in the world.
I will be installing ‘All at Sea’ on the Ross Tiger sometime over the next week or so. Further details and photos of work in situ to follow shortly.
